£150.00

Come and join us on this Regency inspired craft day at Chawton House in Chawton, Hampshire. Home to Edward Austen Knight, brother of Jane Austen, this historical Grade II listed manor house and gardens will be the setting for our crafting activities.

The day will include:

  • Afternoon tea

  • A 1.5 hour introductory workshop on the traditional craft of English paper piece patchwork inspired by Jane Austen’s quilt. If there is time we will also cover Suffolk puffs. This workshop will be taught by textile designer and maker Miesje Chafer.

  • Ticket price includes entrance to the house and gardens - there will be time after the workshops to explore this beautiful house.

Where: Chawton House, Chawton, Hampshire, GU34 1SJ

When: Sunday 22nd June, 10 - 3pm

Who: Over 16’s. To get the most out of the day it would be helpful to have some previous hand sewing experience as the buttons in particular are quite a fiddly activity. Don’t worry if you don’t though, a willingness to learn will do!

What to bring: Just reading glasses if you need them.

About the tutors:

Helen has had a rich and varied career as a historical costumier, having worked for various theatre companies, including the Royal Shakespeare Company. She has spent many year making regency women’s and menswear for re-enactment and history enthusiasts - her wealth of knowledge on the subject is vast and fascinating!

Miesje has been working as a textile designer, maker and artist for the past 15 years. Whilst her knowledge of regency history is sadly lacking she is a dedicated maker and passionate about teaching craft.
